Photography for Personal Use

With certain limitations, The National Society of Colonial Dames in the State of New York permits scholars, students and the general public to photograph Van Cortlandt House Museum and its collections. Photography with hand-held cameras is permitted in Van Cortlandt House Museum without written permission only for non-commercial personal, educational or academic purposes (defined as without personal or corporate financial gain, direct or indirect). All other uses require advance written permission. However, photography or filming that may interfere with public use of the museum requires permission.  Requests for commercial filming or photography shoots must be made in writing to the Director of Van Cortlandt House Museum to arrange for a written agreement and conditions. The National Society of Colonial Dames in the State of New York reserves the right to deny requests from commercial vendors based upon the use of the materials. These requests are handled on a case-by-case basis. Requests by members of the press, requests for photography and filming for news, publicity and promotional purposes all require advance notification.
