#8 A hand-held folding fan of mother of pearl w ornately pierced sticks with floral leaf and scroll designs and gilt highlights, supporting painted double-sided paper pleats. The front is decorated with a medieval court scene w king, queen and subjects in an outdoor setting.

The reverse with courting couples in a rural village landscape. There is a signature, F. Sorrieu on a plinth in the background. The supporting end guards are decorated with ornate gilt ovals, one a portrait of a lady, the other with a turquoise stone. The fan held together at base with an ornate metal hoop and a metal button and opal stone. 41.13.

Frederic Sorrieu was a renowned printer and engraver in Paris and an ardent French nationalist.
