This walk explores the Revolutionary War history of Van Cortlandt Park with a guided walking tour and optional hike. First, enjoy a 1-mile guided walk through the museum and park. Then, for those ready to keep going, continue on a 1.5-mile hike exploring the area around the park to visit little-known places that played in a role in the Revolution.

Join Misty Cook Davids—herbalist, cultural consultant, and member of the Stockbridge-Munsee Community—for a guided walk through the historic grounds of the Van Cortlandt House Museum. Learn to identify natural medicines growing in the landscape around us and explore the plants cultivated in our garden. Misty will share the traditional knowledge behind these medicines, including their history, methods of gathering, drying, preservation, and use. Misty is the author of Medicine Generations: Natural Native American Medicines.

This event is FREE, but registration is suggested as space is limited.

Unfolded Ornament: Fans from the Collection of Van Cortlandt House Museum

Step into a world of artistry, fashion, and function with our newest exhibition, curated by collections specialist John Carini. With design support by Assistant Director Michelle Macias, this multimedia exhibition highlights the delicate beauty and cultural significance of hand fans from the 18th and 19th centuries. Featuring some of the finest examples from our permanent collection, this exhibition invites you to explore the stories these elegant objects have to tell.

In honor of Pride Month, we’re celebrating inclusivity, history, and community with free museum admission for all visitors throughout June.
🌷🪻Spring Has Sprung—And So Have Guided Tours!

Starting Saturday, March 29, 2025 we’re launching guided tours of the museum offered on Saturdays at 2 PM!

Spots are limited to 15 participants on a first-come, first-served basis.
Standard museum admission rates apply.

​Bronx, NY (2/21/25) – NSCDNY/ Van Cortlandt House Museum (VCHM) has received an award of $10,000 from the City of New York as part of the city’s recent announcement of more than $59 million in Cultural Development Fund (CDF) grants to 1,078 cultural organizations across the five boroughs.

For Van Cortlandt House Museum, this CDF grant will support the museum’s No-Cost Field Trips for Bronx Public Schools in the 2024-2025 School Year Initiative.

Mission Statement

Van Cortlandt House Museum strives to be a vital member of the Bronx cultural community and the larger region by preserving, researching and interpreting the Van Cortlandt House, its grounds, and historical collection for a wide audience for the purpose of growing meaningful connections between the past and the present. The Museum’s research and interpretation focuses on the historical inhabitants of the house from 1749-1823, the social history of those who lived and worked on the property, and the study of decorative arts.
Van Cortlandt House Museum is owned by the New York City Department of Parks & Recreation, operated by the National Society of Colonial Dames in the State of New York (NSCDNY), and is a member of the Historic House Trust of New York City.
