Join us on Saturday, February 7th from 12-2 PM for a special historic Valentine-making workshop, where creativity meets tradition! Step back in time and explore the art of crafting hand-made Valentines, inspired by the intricate designs of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.

For ages 12+
Cost: $10/person (incl. materials and a self-guided museum tour.)

Red Monkey Theater Group's Writer in Residence, Amy Frey, will work with students on what makes a successful dramatic theatrical adaptation at this free workshop on Sunday, February 8th at 4 PM. 

Students will have the opportunity to workshop their own dramatic adaptations, and receive feedback from the group.

Join VCHM and Van Cortlandt Park Alliance on Saturday, February 21st at 1 PM for a guided walk and museum experience exploring the lives, labor, and lasting legacy of enslaved Africans in Van Cortlandt Park.

VCHM, the Kingsbridge Historical Society, and the Bronx County Historical Society present this free hybrid talk by local historian Nick Dembowski on Thursday, February 26th at 7 PM examining how Black people in the Bronx navigated war, resistance, and opportunity in their pursuit of freedom during the American Revolution.

This talk will take place both at VCHM and live online via Zoom. registration is required to join the online talk.

Mission Statement

Van Cortlandt House Museum strives to be a vital member of the Bronx cultural community and the larger region by preserving, researching and interpreting the Van Cortlandt House, its grounds, and historical collection for a wide audience for the purpose of growing meaningful connections between the past and the present. The Museum’s research and interpretation focuses on the historical inhabitants of the house from 1749-1823, the social history of those who lived and worked on the property, and the study of decorative arts.
Van Cortlandt House Museum is owned by the New York City Department of Parks & Recreation, operated by the National Society of Colonial Dames in the State of New York (NSCDNY), and is a member of the Historic House Trust of New York City.
